Dear Indies: Let’s Make Sure That Our Work is Always Beautiful

Let’s make sure we’re doing thoughtful, meaningful, beautiful work.

In doing some research lately on promoting myself online, I’m struck by a thought that I can’t seem to get out of my mind.

Now, more than ever, is the time for us to do thoughtful, meaningful, beautiful work.

But it seems that when I think of marketing myself, I am in a mental frenzy, trying to digest it all, afraid that I won’t be heard unless I master the mysterious algorithms and technology that is taking over life.

So – the idea of thoughtful, beautiful, meaningful work seems to cause all of the anxieties to vanish, to dissipate in a most satisfying way.

Life has changed. Learning self promotion is a reality for indies. Learning the mysteries of social media is now a given. But for me at least, the first thing is always about doing something that matters, first and foremost, and learning how to put that care into everything that I do.

We are all still human, after all. Our hearts respond, not to algorithms, and interruption, but rather to truth. Vulnerability. What we can sense is real.
