This is one of my favorite drinks to make for the purpose of getting the liver flowing, particularly to get bile moving out of the liver, as well as cleaning up the cardiovascular system and gently pulling out toxins and heavy metals.
It’s super simple and tastes great, so what could be better?
- 12 oz apple juice (preferably organic)
- 12 oz filtered or spring water
- 1-3 cloves of garlic (not heads of garlic, cloves!)
- 1-3 TBSP organic olive oil
- The juice of 1/2 a fresh lemon or lime
- A handful of cilantro
- About 1″ fresh ginger, cut into slices
Dump everything in a good blender (like a VitaMix or BlendTec), and blend it all up until everything is smooth. You can use a cheaper blender if that is all you have, just know that you may have an issue with consistency.
If you’re unsure about the drink (it tastes great, trust me!), feel free to greatly reduce the amount of olive oil, garlic, and ginger at first, until you get used to it. Also, this drink works best first thing in the morning, although I’ve had it at all times of the day, and even before bedtime.
Be cautious in using this if you have existing issues with your gallbladder, notably stones, as this will flush out a good deal of bile. Consider starting out very slowly, and consult your health care provider if you have any concerns.
